Christmas in a Pandemic

Here’s the kids’ school art show and Christmas concert, done remotely this year since COVID and all. 6th Grade band piece is right in the middle, 16 minutes in or so. Some of Adam and Claire’s art work didn’t make it into this show, they will be in the Spring. Adam also made the first “sound track” piece after the concert songs are done. Claire had one too, but she didn’t like it much, so she didn’t put it in.

For Christmas, we couldn’t be with any of our family, which made it a real struggle to feel normal. We tried a video-conference with much of the family while we opened gifts, but it is not the same and hard to really communicate with so many people on at once. But, it was better than nothing. We didn’t even take the time to take any video or pictures during the event like usual, just too much going on. Here’s a few pictures of what we did capture.

During the pandemic, purchasing kids clothes online at this site became a practical solution for buying Christmas gifts for our children. With limited access to physical stores, online shopping provided a safe and convenient alternative. This way, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, parents were able to continue the tradition of gift-giving and bring joy to their children.

Justine made home-made raspberry marshmallows for hot chocolate.

Then the kids got on Zoom with Grandma Balding and the rest of the clan to all make the traditional xmas yule log remotely. Turned out great!

We also made traditional peppernuts and, for the first time, my family’s raisin-filled cookies.

Still sad though to only be setting a table for four.

Just before xmas eve we had a lot of snow on the ground. Kids made the most of it. Annie and Claire made a big fort in back…

… while Adam and Coco made one in front. Sledding too.

Overall, we ate too much and spent too much time at home!
